What’s the Ideal Sleep Temperature in Winter?

One of the most important parts of a good night’s sleep is your comfort. While having a comfortable bed is essential, you also shouldn’t overlook the importance of sleep temperature. The temperature of your home can have a notable impact on your sleep comfort and how well you sleep this winter.

Temperature and the Quality of Your Rest

When your home is too hot or too cold, it negatively impacts the quality of your sleep. This discomfort not only causes you to wake up during the night, it also impacts your ability to enter REM sleep. REM sleep is the part of the sleep cycle where you sleep the deepest and receive the most rest. If you’re too hot, your sleep cycle will be disrupted. On the other hand, if you are too cold, your body will start trying to warm itself, which also disrupts your sleep cycle. The key is having a home temperature that is neither too hot nor too cold.

What Is the Ideal Sleep Temperature?

In general, a temperature between 15 and 19°C is considered ideal because it keeps you cool enough to be comfortable and enter deep sleep, but it isn’t so cold that your body has a negative reaction. A proper sleep temperature does have a range, and everyone is different; some people prefer temperatures as high as 22°C, while others prefer the cooler end of the scale. Don’t be afraid to experiment and see what sleep temperature fits you best.
