Don’t Let These Common A/C Problems Interrupt Your Summertime Comfort

Don't Let These Common A/C Problems Interrupt Your Summertime ComfortA small problem with your A/C can both lower your comfort and increase your energy bills. If your A/C doesn’t feel like it’s running quite right, check for these common A/C problems to get it going again.

Refrigerant Leaks

If your A/C is taking a long time to cool or the air coming out of your vents doesn’t feel cold, it may be due to low refrigerant. Contrary to popular belief, an A/C should not need to be regularly recharged. If the refrigerant is low, it’s due to improper charging or a leak. Once the problem is fixed, your A/C should go back to cooling like normal.

Dirty Parts

Your A/C needs to be cleaned regularly. Your filter, evaporator coil and condenser all get covered in dust, dirt and grime during normal operation. This dirt reduces the A/C’s cooling capacity and places stress on the parts that could lead to you needing more frequent and more expensive repairs.

Electronic Failures

If your A/C is constantly turning on and off, not cycling off or not behaving as expected during the prevailing temperature, there may be a problem with its electronic system. Dirt and humidity are common causes of these problems. Call an HVAC contractor as soon as possible to make sure other parts of your system aren’t damaged.

Drainage Problem

Pooling condensation can also cause damage to your A/C. It should drain away on its own, but may not if the drainage pipes are blocked. Periodically check to make sure they haven’t become clogged and the ends are clear.
