HVAC Maintenance Checklist: Fall Edition

Before you know it, the leaves will begin to drop off the trees and it’ll be time for fall maintenance of your HVAC system. To get you started, we’ve compiled a few helpful tips to make sure that you’re getting the best out of your equipment as soon as the weather begins to cool off.

Call a Professional for an Annual Checkup

If you haven’t had your HVAC equipment checked in the past year, now’s the time to do it. Hiring a technician to diagnose any potential issues and provide you with solutions will keep your system running smoothly and efficiently for years to come. Plus, it’ll extend the lifespan of your equipment.

Switch Out the Filters

No matter what time of year it is, you must always deal with air filters getting clogged up with debris. Since this can negatively impact your system’s efficiency, you need to check and switch out these filters every 1-3 months. Set a schedule and stick with it. Some filters can be washed and used again, so be sure that you’re aware of what type your system uses.

Set the Thermostat

Changing your thermostat’s temperature on a daily basis will do nothing but waste energy and money. Decide on a temperature for the season and stick to it as much as possible. And if you don’t already have a smart thermostat, you should definitely consider it since they allow better control over your comfort needs.

Check the Outdoor Component

If your HVAC equipment includes an outdoor component and you haven’t checked it in a while, there’s a good chance that leaves and other debris could be covering it. This can clog it up and decrease the system’s overall efficiency, so we suggest that you remove as much debris by hand as you can and then use a hose to wash off the rest.
