Top Tips For Albertans Lead To Energy Savings

Energy savings is at the forefront of consumer concerns. Conservation is not only kinder to the environment; it saves you money. Arpi’s cares about consumers and wants you to get the most for your energy dollars. We help our customers get the best installation and service on energy-efficiency products and show you how to use them properly. Here are our top list of tips for saving energy.

Cooling

There are several factors that influence a cooling system’s energy consumption. You can cut energy use by:

  • Turning off lights when they’re not in use.
  • Closing drapes where the sun shines on hot days.
  • Turning the A/C off when you’re out.
  • Adjusting the system’s temperature setting. For every degree that you set the temperature below 26 degrees C, you’ll save incrementally on electricity. Most homeowners see savings at 24 degrees or 25 degrees C.
  • Turning the A/C system off when you leave the house, either manually or with a programmable thermostat.
  • Using the fan feature on your thermostat allows the furnace’s blower to circulate cooled air and makes a lower temperature feel comfortable.

Heating

  • Using a programmable thermostat helps you set comfortable temperatures when you’re home and lower temperatures when you’re away. You can also set the temperature back while you sleep. A programmable thermostat is like insurance: you won’t forget to set back and you won’t miss out on energy savings.
  • Changing air filters regularly during consistent use of heating (and cooling) equipment also helps it to function well and use energy efficiently.

Water Heaters

  • Heating uses up the most energy in your home; water heating comes in second. Addressing energy-wasting areas here creates significant savings.
  • When you’re on vacation, turn the water heater to off or use a vacation mode setting if you have one.
  • Fix leaking faucets right away. Left unaddressed, leaks contribute almost 100 litres over the course of a month.
  • Faucets with low flow aerators help with water efficiency.

By combining cooling, heating, and water-heating tips, you can save energy. Call Arpi’s if you have any concerns about energy savings or you’re interested in energy-saving products. We’re here to help.
